Day 26 – Favorite Who Actress
Elisabeth Sladen would be my first choice here, but I haven’t seen her - or any of the other classic Who actresses - in non-Who related things. So I’m going with an Unsung Extra - Sue Bishop.
I can’t find much at all about her on Google, and her IMDb page only lists roles up to 1982. She’s in so many Are You Being Served? episodes as a salesgirl, just milling away in the background, but she only ever had one speaking bit on that show, in “Anything You Can Do” (watch it here). She also shows up at times - and gets an onscreen credit - in “The Brain of Morbius,” as one of the Sisters of Karn. (I think that’s her in the screencap above - it’s kinda hard to tell with all that makeup!)
I think it’s neat that Sue Bishop was kinda quietly popping up on TV every once in a while in the 1970s, appearing on everything from The Benny Hill Show in 1970 to Blake’s 7 later that decade (thanks, IMDb!). A random choice for fave Who actress? Yeah, probably. But without extras, groups like the Sisterhood of Karn would look a lot less formidable. Imagine if it were just the wrinkly one and Ohica! Not powerful at all.
